Clinical Consultation
Clinical Consultation allows for organisational/individual clinician discussions around casework, which are often complex, but which can serve to highlight a myriad of layers involved in an intervention. In such instances, a systemic methodology will complement case management aimed at supporting practice outcomes, which see the client working towards addressing the issues of concern. Additionally, clinical consultation will support direct interventions, within the sphere of the organisation/individual clinician through all key stages of the planning process. To this end, TCHD will engage the client in an advisory capacity and provide a clinical perspective to support case discussions, and to assist the professional intervention with the client. Additionally, TCHD will undertake therapeutic interventions in cases where the client makes a request for collaboration.
TCHD’s model of Clinical Consultation involves ten (10) key principles:
- Repair A Broken System
Understand the gaps in the system in servicing clients and the impact upon the quality of service. - Safety Above All
The safety of all stakeholders, especially the child or youth at the centre of the intervention is paramount. - Create Focused Clear Plans Based on Facts
Evidence-Based Interventions will be utilized as a model of assessment and data gathering - Don’t “Launch” Before You Are “Prepared”
Preparation is critical to any intervention, and the client will provide services with not only clinical support but also within clear legal and ethical guidelines - Distribute Limited Resources Where They’ll Work
The matching or best fit of resources is necessary to provide the most efficient and effective product - Everyone is Accountable, Particularly You
Clear guidelines of accountability will be enhanced to provide effective communication - Work with Reality
Become realistic as to the challenges at hand to guard against burnout - Self-care – You and Your Team
Self-care and management of vicarious trauma as critical factors to any organisation/clinician - Strength Base
Utilize a Strengths-based approach at all facets of the intervention - Leave A System Better Than Before
Clearly evaluate the system to identify added strengths, opportunities, possible weaknesses, and challenges
- Clinical Consultation can also be accessed via video-conferencing or teleconferencing.
